By train, car, air - that's how you can reach Panicale.
The least expensive way of reaching Panicale, if you don't come by car or train from less distant places, is to fly into Rome, Bologna, Florence or Pisa and then rent a car at the airport.
You can also take a train to Chiusi - Chianciano. Chiusi is 16 kms from Panicale. If you want, we can pick you up by car at the railway station and bring you back for a nominal fee.

In Italy there are two kinds of high-ways. The autostrada with a max-imum speed of 130 km/h and a toll to pay. The toll is calculated according to the kilometres driven and you pay it at the exit. The other type of road is the super-strada, which usually is smaller and free of charge.
When using the autostrada, you enter a toll station. Choose the cash lane which shows money on a sign and a green light. Go as far as the bar. There you grab the ticket from the machine on your left and the bar will open. When leaving the highway, opt again for the lane with a green light... either showing cash or credit cards.
In the cash lane, hand your ticket over to the cashier. It will show on a monitor how much you have to pay. In the credit card lane, stick your ticket, arrows first, in the slot followed by your credit card.
When you have paid, the bar goes up and you are off. If you put your credit card in wrong, just turn it around. Done right, the bar goes up and a voice will say Arriverderci, but not sing for you. |
Train prices in Italy are not expensive. You can buy your ticket at the ticket office or at a machine, which have a menu in English. The automats accept most of existing bank or credit cards. If you want to prepare your trip at home before leaving, click at the word "time-table" and you will get to TRENITALIA. You can choose between English or Italian text and find out how often there is a train and what the price of the ticket is.
DON´T FORGET TO STAMP THE TICKET BEFORE YOU GET ON THE TRAIN! This can be done in one of the small yellow machines you will find inside and outside the station. In case you realize you have forgotten to do so when you already are on the train, try and find immediately the conductor and show him your ticket without stamp. He will write something on it and you will probably not have to pay a fine.
